THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATON OF BUSINESS PROCESSES HAS A PROFOUND IMPACT ON CULTURAL PROCESSES, ARCHITECTURE AND TECHNOLOGY. THE CLOUD REVOLUTION PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN THE TRANSFORMATION OF PRODUCTION PROCESSES
Modernisation of applications, automation, infrastructures, the evolution towards the development and deployment of Cloud-Native applications: a path that requires a cultural and organisational change and new IT approaches, a practice that enhances and innovates existing applications and optimises process management, which should be at the top of the agenda for every enterprise.
Data on the Digital sector indicate a steady growth of the Cloud area, which appears as one of the emerging technologies alongside Artificial Intelligence, 5G, Internet of Things, Cybersecurity, Big Data, Mobile Business.
The Anitec-Assinform report Il Digitale in Italia 2020 indicated Cloud migration as the third sector to which investments are directed, preceded only by automation and infrastructure management, also highlighting the decisive role in the activation of remote work during the pandemic emergency.
The next edition shows the move to the Cloud as one of the Digital Enablers behind the offerings of innovative start-ups and SMEs. Moreover, it highlights how companies in the non-ICT sectors are also starting to look with interest at the new scenarios enabled by digital innovation on several fronts: from the ‘smart’ automation of the existing processes to the creation of new business models driven by engineering innovations. KPIs for customers in the finance and services sector, for whom SCAI ITEC has implemented winning Cloud solutions, show a steady growth of 25% in the Cloud and microservices market, which will continue until at least 2023, as a key element in the application and architectural modernisation of companies.
SCAI ITEC – a company specialising in architectural design, application development, system integration, system & data administration from a Cloud and DevOps perspective – provides its know-how and offers customers a true partnership to guide them through the renewal phase of their IT infrastructures and to build a microservices-based architecture as an accelerator for application modernisation.
The two pillars of a native cloud application are:
- The Containers’technology, which allows the creation of a system composed of autonomous services that facilitate the release of applications along the way, so as not to disrupt the other functions of the customer’s production line and to avoid system slowdowns that could lead to large monetary losses in the event of a system stoppage.
- The DevOps, agile software development methodology focuses on collaboration and integration of skills between developers and operations staff.
The combination of these two elements enables actions throughout the software lifecycle, so making the production chain as smooth as possible and achieving a tangible improvement in time to market.
The plan of action is configured taking into account the objectives and structure of the individual company, on a case-by-case basis, also intervening in companies where it is not possible to undertake a complete modernisation on the cloud native for the entire application pool.
The first document issued to the customer is a draft architectural blueprint composed of microservices, i.e. a preview of the path to be taken, in which all the solutions to be applied and refined in the subsequent phases are set out.
After the assessment phase, a PoC is proposed to the customer: not a concept in itself, but the analysis of a concrete functionality within the IT infrastructure and (where possible) the integration of the cloud-native pattern through the accelerator.
Subsequently, analyses are carried out on the benefits provided to check whether they coincide with the objectives set at the beginning of the modernisation process.
After a solution review phase, the impact of the process on the functionality chosen at the beginning of the exercise is observed; if the outcome is positive, the actual migration, in which re-factoring may be partial, proceeds.
Forecasts for the years to come also show a more structural growth component: the number of companies making the Cloud a real strategic choice is growing, even in sectors, such as banking, that until a few years ago found it difficult to adopt within complex data centres.
